Slaves or Masters?

Can mobile phones or Internet connections really empower us...empower us to communicate...maybe they do...but the question is at what cost?

They enable us to communicate with out any restrictions of physical, geographical or social borders...But, are they doing just that...Aren't they successfully alienating us from those that are in physical proximity to us?

The moment i hear the cell phone, come what may, an instant desire to answer it overpowers every other necessity...it is almost like i am at its beck and call...as if i have to, have to answer it...It doesn't matter, that i am sitting next to the most important people in my life, and having dinner...i have to answer that phone...come what may!

It is not difficult to visualize ourselves becoming slaves of something we have created for our convenience. Something which is supposed to empower us in now enslaving us, and knowingly and willingly we are ready to swap our seats in the power game.

Ironically, i use the very medium that i am deriding to put my point across...and funnily i would rather blog about this, than go across to my neighbor's place and share this thought with her, while having a cup of coffee... that's my musing of the day!

Technology supposedly is to be your slave, not the otherway around. There was a time when US was a distant land, antartica a remote area and Africa a Dark continent. But now we have live video streaming available from these places. I guess technology has reduced distances. Another perspective borrowed from "Munna Bhai" is that technology has made stranger friends and maybe friends strangers. However I guess there is a lesson here for all of us. Nothing to beat a hot cuppa filter coffee anyway- I guess that can never get digital (or would it!!!)
