The Cloak of Invisibility

First the name, why "The Cloak of Invisibility"... Because, i think that is what we are hiding in..With blogs, chat rooms, tweeting, ...in spite of all that we share, there is a part of us, that is happy in this cloak of invisibility.

We readily share things about our lives, our likes, dislikes, our happiness and sorrow....in the complacence that the people we share this with, will somehow never know us or reach us in 'real-time'.

It reminds me of how as children while traveling by trains on holidays, we would often see grown-ups exchange fair amounts of information about themselves...their lives would be open-books to fellow-travelers. Probably, the comfort of knowing that we may never meet them again, gives the reassurance of sharing intimate details and family secrets with them...

Isn't that what the Net is now offering us? The Cloak of Invisibility...to share things...to express ourselves..without fear or apprehension...of either being judged or misjudged...of not needing to confine ourselves to some pre-set ideas that people we meet on a day to day basis invariably form of us.

On the Net, we are bound by no limitations as it were...when i chat..when i blog...when i tweet... i can be what i am not in real life... i could 'avatarize' myself into someone i aspire to be... or more strangely, i can really be what i am ...

In any case, i have no fear of being judged.. of being measured on some earlier parameters....I have the freedom of expression in the true sense...

This requirement to express oneself freely without any inhibitions, without any fears or apprehensions is certainly fulfilled by this Cloak of Invisibility.

I guess we all grew up in a society in late 70s where power of expression was acquired/cultivated taste, restricted to few. However the internet revolution -- specfically blog-- has now opened up the doors. Nothing wrong with that. I guess in future this too may form a part of the education curriculum.
