Nostalgia is a Good Place to Visit!

Owe this title, this post and a whole lot more, to my brother! Our morning text-chats about our childhood brought back a flood of beautiful memories! The simplicity of life in the 80s when we were little kids...a time, when every small thing that we did as a family was so special that it has now taken almost mythical proportions in our minds! Like two 'oldies' we were talking about our 'good old days' when we were simple, people were simple, lifestyles were simple, times were simple when everything was just plain simple!

A time, when even the regular Vegetable Pulav had made our Sunday morning brunches/lunches so special! It was almost a weekly ritual to have the Veg Pulav on Sundays, and it seemed so special to us, when our parents served it with the accompanying pepper papad, pickles and onion and tomato raita...a seemingly easy menu in today's time, but the simplicity and the flavors have never got replicated to this day! The excitement of meals eaten together and relished...what little it took to keep us truly happy and contended as kids!

A time when we weren't spoilt by choice in any thing, be it the menu or the entertainment! A time, when Doordarshan was the only channel, a time when the absolutely hilarious "Yeh jo hai Zingdagi" used to make us roll with laughter. I wonder if it would still be funny to us now. A time when "Buniyad" with its haunting title music would be watched seriously in every neighbour's house too, so that all the aunties could do an in-depth analysis of it!

A time, when we used to race to the nearby 'thelawala' for delicious Samosas during the Sunday evening movie breaks! The 50 paise Samosas with the accompanying 'tava fried' green chillies and onions...the taste again! wow! can i ever taste those flavors again!

Memories are beautiful...they iron out all the rough edges and spread a warm and beautiful feeling within us and can turn us into little kids again! The laughter, the mirth, the playfulness and the innocence of it all...what beautiful times!

Like my brother says "Nostalgia is a good place to visit"! Then again, only to visit...!
