The Urge to Re-connect...

The latest Google advertisement shows how two septuagenarians are re-connected thanks to the latest technology and obviously thanks to Google which helps people find what they are looking for! The ad especially appealed to me, as i often find myself in situations where i am either trying to re-establish ties or find myself pleasantly surprised by an unexpected message from an old friend.

The ad got me thinking...why do we have this compelling urge to re-connect? Why do we get pulled back to re-establish ties and bonds with the people from our pasts.

While i can't pinpoint on one motive that drives us...i know for sure, that the desire is definitely there in most of us. If nothing else, to atleast reach out and say a 'Hello' again...an urge to let that other person know, that despite all the time that has gone by, 'Hey, you are still on my mind!' or maybe just to convey, 'Hey, you are not forgotten yet!'

Well, whatever it is that drives us, what is important, is that we value those relationships enough to make that effort. In today's day and age, it is so easy to get lost in the labyrinth of our day to day activities and issues that we rarely, if ever, have the time to look back...at the things that mattered...at the times that mattered...at the people who mattered...

If nothing else, this re-connections take us back in time and place to all the good times we've had...reminding us of all the things we shared...of all the times we enjoyed...of all the people who were with us and who cared for us.

To re-connect...it does make a difference afterall!
